James River Off-Road Triathlon Postponed

June 9, 2016 – Richmond, Virginia – It was announced yesterday that the James River Off-Road Triathlon will be postponed until a later date in 2016 (yet to be determined). An email from the race director stated:

With the short timetable between all approvals and event date, we have not accumulated enough racers to make a viable event for this weekend.

RunRideRace, the event organizers, were unable to secure sponsors and adequate promotion in the short period of time from the announcement of the discontinuation of the XTERRA East Championship earlier in 2016 and the June 12th event.

This was disappointing news for the highly enthusiastic local off-road tri community after XTERRA dissolved the XTERRA US Tour and pulled the East Championship, citing expenses. For the past 15 years, Richmond, Virginia gave racers a unique downtown event with a zig zagging swim in the James River, fantastic singletrack mountain biking, and a run like no other with a wild river crossing.
