XTERRA Announce 2017 World Tour Calendar

5 New Events Added, Scandinavia Fully Covered

XTERRA have tentatively announced the dates and locations for the 2017 XTERRA World Tour. The XTERRA World Tour continues to grow and evolve with the addition of races in Thailand, Cyprus, Paraguay, and Wales for 2017. Finland and Norway will also return to World Tour status making for a total of seven new events and fully covering then endurance sport mad Scandinavian countries (although Finland isn’t technically part of Scandinavia, but we’ll leave that discussion for FaceBook).

Unfortunately we also lose XTERRAs in Australia, Spain, Italy, and Quebec. The World Tour schedule is still tentative so it is not certain that these four events will be lost. We would be quite surprised if Australia did not have an XTERRA in 2017 considering the rapid growth of cross triathlon in Australia and the fact that the country is hosting the ITU Cross Triathlon World Championship in 2016.

Unfortunately Spain has had some past issues with its race organizer and XTERRA could not tolerate the event not being up to the standard the expect from the XTERRA brand.

Italy however, has always been quite popular and provides for one of the most iconic XTERRA locations, we will be quite surprised if we don’t see Lago Di Scanno on the 2017 World Tour.

The same goes for Quebec City. XTERRA seems to finally be getting some traction in Canada we would hate to see them lose Quebec City. However, XTERRA’s struggles in Canada have always been very surprising. With a multiple time World Champion in Melanie McQuaid and numerous top professionals and passionate age groupers its baffling to us that Canada doesn’t have a thriving 10 race XTERRA series complimented by numerous Provincial cross triathlons.

England has also had trouble retaining an XTERRA, so it is very good to see XTERRA return to the UK with the addition of XTERRA Wales. While it is a step in the right direction it is again baffling that the UK doesn’t have a thriving cross triathlon scene.

Above you will find a live map of the current XTERRA Triathlon World Tour. Please share it everywhere you can. It is a live Google map and easily shared or embedded.
