Our Favorite Images From The 2018 ITU Winter Tri World Champs

The Russian contingent was dominant at the 2018 ITU Winter Triathlon World Championships winning the Men’s, Women’s, and Mixed Relay competitions.

The event took place at the Cheile Gradistei Biathlon venue in the Transylvanian region of Romania. Both the men’s and women’s events featured deep international fields with most strong European winter sports countries represented. The challenge to the ITU will be to attract North American and Asian power houses in the coming year.

Below is a gallery of our favorite images from stunning Cheile Gradistei, Romania.

Shoe choice is always a tough one in Winter Triathlon, spikes, aggressive trail shoes, racing flats? You see a bit of everything.
Riding in snow can be a be challenging. While fat tires and mid-fat are allowed we saw athletes opting for narrow tires and often spiked tires in Romania.
Bike to ski transition has a lot of equipment to manage. Being able to ski while putting on poles is an advantage.
Interesting. Start of the Elite Men’s Triathlon at the Biathlon venue.
