XTERRA Nordic Winter Duathlon Series Kicks Off in Aarhus

XTERRA Nordic Winter Duathlon Series Aarhus

We know cross triathletes are a tougher breed. It would seem, true to their Viking heritage, Danish athletes are even tougher.

The first race of the XTERRA Nordic four race winter duathlon series held in Aarhus, Denmark last weekend did not offer up the best racing conditions. Or, maybe it did, depending on your preferences for a winter event.

On race day Aarhus was overcast with snow flurries and temperatures hovering around the freezing point. The trails had already been dusted with a few centimeters of snow, just enough to glaze the trails with mud once enough feet or tires had passed through. So, it was cold, snowy, slightly muddy, and perfect for an off season training series race (and probably an Akvavit or two post race).

The race course didn’t leave all the fun up to the weather either. With rolling hills and some challenging long climbs as well as an icy stream crossing this course looked to be and awesomely fun adventure for all those who took part. Great job XTERRA Nordic!

In the end 136 brave souls finished the 5km run, 15km MTB, 5km run course with 17 year old Jens Emil Sloth Nielsen taking the men’s race and Lene Gisselmann Jørgensen claiming the women’s.
