XTERRA Veterans Mendez, Serrano Show Well On The Road at Ironman 70.3 Monterrey

Mexican XTERRA veterans Mauricio Mendez and Francisco Serrano placed 3rd and 8th respectively over the weekend at Ironman 70.3 Monterrey. The men took to the roads on the heels of strong performances by the off-road women Flora Duffy, Barbara Riveros, and Charlotte McShane at ITU WTS Abu Dhabi last week.

It is not uncommon for dirtTRI athletes to take to the roads in the early season, particularly in the past when off-road athletes didn’t have the wide variety of early season off-road triathlon options we currently enjoy.

Will early season road races benefit off-road performance? Only time will tell. But, its obvious dirtTRI athletes have what it takes to hold their own on the roads…although we have to assume they get just a bit board on the bike.
