One of the great things about cross triathlon is that when you combine three sports, you develop a very well round, overall fit body. Swimming will build upper body, mountain biking primarily enhances your legs, but also develops some upper body, and running will sculpt your legs. It is very important to remember that separately you can fine tune each of these areas, but connecting them all together with functional strength and agility training is key to becoming the best cross triathlete you can be. Sport specific strength training is the perfect way to do this. This type of training will take the fitness and strength you’ve developed from the three sports and teach your body to combine them and utilize your full potential.
Reigning UCI Mountain Bike World Champion and Olympic silver medalist, Nino Schurter from Switzerland, recently created a video to show you some of his sport specific strength training for the mountain bike.
